East Lansing's Rental Enforcement Procedures May Be Changing
Posted by: Amanda Oboza
New procedures, including smaller fines may come into place after proposed changes were formally introduced to East Lansing City Council the week of June 2.

City Attorney Tim Yeadon said the changes are needed to add more clarity to rental enforcement procedures and give enforcement officers more discretion in issuing tickets.

Two judges ruled the city's fines as excessive in 2011 and 2012 and proponents of the rental enforcement changes hope to see smaller fines in the future.

The city, will however be able to issue hefty fines to landlords who are illegally renting out multiple apartments.

Does this affect you? A public hearing on the matter will be July 8 at 7 p.m. in  court room 2 at 54B District Court 101 Linden St.
