Top 10 Takeaways: Improving Communication, Collaboration and Relationships
1.  Good communication IS collaboration!
Tips for improving communication:
  • 2. Consider timelines! Real estate agents run their own business; when would you expect to  hear back from a business?

  • 3. Be responsive. Even if agents aren’t able to have a lengthy conversation or meet with someone, a quick reply to let someone know you have received their information goes a long way.

  • 4. Set Expectations! Have a full consultation with clients to set expectations and sign agency agreements. This is a great way for clients to see the value of their agent.

  • 5. What people meant to say is sometimes not what is actually said or actually heard. It is important to clarify that all parties have the same understanding.

  • 6. Be mindful of filters! Filters can impact how others interpret a message. Filters can be words, cultural/generational, personality types, physical barriers, and experience.
7. Number of years in the business does NOT equal level of professionalism. Respect breeds respect.
8. What do older agents want younger agents to know?
  • “I don’t like to type out my conversations.”
  • ” I am not too old”
  • “Please respond in a timely manner- like the same day.”
9. What do younger agents want older agents to know?
  • “Treat them like an equal.”
  • “They are adults. No condescension.”
  • “Do not call them kid or kiddo.”
  • “You millennials…..”
  • “Read the MLS before calling.”
  • “No voicemail.”
10.  Be mindful of the types of communication methods your clients prefer. Don’t make assumptions…ask them!
