Three changes to the Greater Lansing Multiple Listing Service (MLS) give REALTORS® more room to market a property, a direct line between their artificial intelligence (AI) tools and Flex, and more control over their own lockboxes. Here is what changed and what you need to do.

4,000 characters

Five times the room for listing descriptions.

Agent-assigned

The agent who uses a lockbox can now manage it.

1Listing Descriptions Now Allow 4,000 Characters

800 → 4,000
As of September 14, 2026, the listing description field in Flex has grown from 800 characters to 4,000 — five times the space it had before.

That matters more than it used to. Search engines and AI answer tools favor listings with real, specific detail. When a buyer asks an AI tool for a three-bedroom home near a particular school with an updated kitchen, the listings that name those details are the ones that surface.

Tip: Spend your time writing a richer description, not trimming words to fit a box. Specific beats long: name the updates, the finishes, the lot, and the neighborhood features buyers ask about.

2Connect Your AI to Flex

Agents with a paid AI account, such as Claude or ChatGPT, can now connect that account directly to Flex. Instead of building searches field by field, you can ask questions of trusted MLS property data in plain language. Access is turned on one agent at a time, so request yours by emailing [email protected].

Members can put the connection to work in three areas

A few example prompts

“Show me listings in Grand Ledge that expired in the last 60 days and haven’t relisted.”

“What’s the average days on market for homes like [address] right now?”

“Which of my listings have been on the market for 45 days or more without a price reduction?”

“How does pricing in Haslett compare to Okemos this year?”

What Is Required

To connect AI to Flex, agents must:

  1. 1Request access from the GLAR MLS Department by emailing [email protected]. Kristy Solomon, MLS Director, turns on each connection individually.
  2. 2Possess and maintain a paid AI account.
  3. 3Adhere to the GLAR AI Policy.

Prepare now: take the Train Your AI course, available to members through GLAR’s learning platform.

3Lockboxes Can Now Be Assigned to Agents

Brokers can now assign lockboxes directly to their agents, so the agent who uses a lockbox can also manage it. To transfer lockboxes into an agent’s name:

  1. 1Complete the SentriLock Authorized User Agreement. Both the agent and the broker sign it. Return it to GLAR.
  2. 2Send GLAR an Excel file listing the lockboxes to be transferred.
  3. 3GLAR transfers the lockboxes into the agent’s name
