Beginning August 2026, GLAR is changing how member dues are billed. The total amount is not changing.
Below are answers to the most common questions about the new schedule.
Is GLAR increasing dues?
No. GLAR membership fees, MLS fees, and NAR dues are not increasing. The total annual cost remains the same.
What is changing and why?
Monthly billing ends after July 2026. Members will choose to pay in full or move to four quarterly payments for GLAR dues and MLS fees, plus one payment in October that covers Michigan REALTORS® and National Association of REALTORS® dues.
We know monthly billing worked well for some members. Ending it comes down to the Michigan and National dues payment: GLAR pays that amount in full to the state and national associations before collecting matching installments from members, so spreading collection across twelve months extended that exposure longer than necessary.
Moving it to a single October payment, alongside quarterly payments for GLAR dues and MLS fees, shortens that exposure and strengthens the association’s financial footing. It also aligns well with commission-based income, which tends to arrive in larger amounts tied to closings rather than a steady paycheck. The total cost stays the same.
When do the new payments happen?
| Month | Covers | |
|---|---|---|
| August 10 | GLAR dues & MLS fees | |
| October 10 | Michigan & National dues | |
| November 10 | GLAR dues & MLS fees | |
| February 10 | GLAR dues & MLS fees | |
| May 10 | GLAR dues & MLS fees |
The Michigan REALTORS® and National Association of REALTORS® dues payment will be withdrawn in October.
What does the payment include?
Each quarterly payment represents one-fourth of GLAR dues, one-fourth of MLS fees, and one-fourth of the $6o suggested RPAC investment. The payment in October is for Michigan REALTORS® and the National Association of REALTORS®.
Can I still pay ahead or pay in full?
Yes. Members can still pay ahead or pay in full at any time through the member portal.
Will payments still be automatic?
Yes. Payments will continue to be auto-charged on the 10th, and members will have until the 15th to resolve a declined card or an expired payment method.
Do I still need to choose a payment option?
Yes. Members will still be required to select their preferred payment setup in the member portal.
What if I’m a new agent joining mid-year?
New members joining mid-cycle will still have an upfront amount due, similar to the current setup, and will then roll into the next quarterly cycle.
